Services Australia ICT supports large, complex digital services used by the Australian community, including services that support Medicare, Centrelink, Child Support, and aged care. Our project managers work with business areas, technology specialists, vendors, and delivery partners to help technology changes move from planning through to implementation, transition, and closure. What we do


Technology and Digital Programs Group (TDP) delivers and supports the digital services, applications, platforms, and technology infrastructure that enable Australians to access essential government services. Our work supports programs including Centrelink, Medicare, Child Support and Aged Care, helping millions of Australians access payments, healthcare, aged care, and other government services when they need them most. 


Working across some of the largest and most complex ICT environments in Australia, we design, build, integrate, secure, and operate critical technology solutions that support service delivery nationwide. From software development and cloud technologies through to cyber security, data, infrastructure and technology transformation, our teams play a vital role in delivering secure, reliable, and modern digital government services.


About the Role


As a Senior ICT Project Manager, you will provide enterprise leadership and strategic direction for complex, high-risk ICT projects and programs that support critical government services. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will be accountable for delivery outcomes, governance, assurance, enterprise dependencies and alignment across business, ICT, commercial and vendor environments.

  • Provide strategic leadership and end-to-end accountability for complex, high-risk ICT projects and programs, including delivery performance and outcomes.
  • Establish delivery strategies, priorities and decision frameworks that align investment with agency outcomes, enterprise architecture, cyber security, and governance obligations.
  • Direct multiple workstreams and resolve enterprise dependencies, competing priorities and critical delivery risks.
  • Own project and program governance, assurance, financial oversight, quality and compliance, ensuring transparent escalation and effective controls.
  • Build alignment and negotiate outcomes with senior executives, business owners, technical leaders, vendors, and external partners.
  • Provide authoritative, evidence-based advice to senior executives on delivery options, investment priorities, risks, impacts, and trade-offs.
  • Lead implementation, transition, service continuity, and operational readiness are integrated into delivery planning and executive decision-making.
  • Lift organisational delivery capability through improved governance, assurance, workforce leadership, reporting and lessons management.


  • Some positions may require security clearance. This will be identified for each vacancy. 
  • Roles are expected to uphold the APS Values and Code of Conduct, and follow relevant privacy, security, workplace health and safety, and inclusion requirements. 


Highly desirable criteria

  • Minimum three years' experience working in an ICT project management environment.
  • Relevant project management qualifications, such as a Diploma in Project Management or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering complex, highly integrated ICT projects at scale.

In accordance with section 22(6) of the Public Service Act 1999, Services Australia requires applicants to be Australian citizens to be eligible for employment with Services Australia. 


An applicant’s suitability for employment with the agency will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes but is not limited to a national police history check, referee checks, code of conduct check and an employment history integrity check. 


Some positions within Services Australia may be required to work in settings where mandatory vaccinations are required. Staff in such positions will need to demonstrate that they meet the vaccination requirements or have a relevant exemption.


Services Australia’s workforce operates using an agile approach, and all staff should be prepared to redeploy to critical frontline functions as required.
