Position Overview
The Senior Geospatial Specialist reports to the Manager Geospatial Solutions and is responsible for the architecture, administration and maintenance of the Tribunal’s geospatial datasets and online services. These services assist the Tribunal with specific functions and responsibilities under the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth).
- Administer the provision of spatial data management, storage, and dissemination solutions.
- Actively create, develop and review processes and procedures to improve, simplify and enhance geospatial solutions.
- Undertake the development, testing, documentation, maintenance and sustained provision of ArcGIS Enterprise including online map and analysis services.
- Administration and maintenance of custodial and non-custodial geospatial datasets and metadata to assist the delivery of geospatial products and analysis associated with native title matters.
- Provide high level advice on matters relevant to geospatial data services being provided to and by the Tribunal.
- Provide support related to the technical architecture and solution design projects within Geospatial Services
- Undertake complex geospatial analysis associated with native title matters.
- Actively contribute to the ongoing management and monitoring of risk and business continuity for Geospatial Services.
- Provide supervision and mentoring to other team members, as required.
- Actively contribute to opportunities for business improvements and assist in identifying customer/stakeholder interests and needs.
- Advocate and promote geospatial services and products to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Scan both internal and external environments to monitor professional trends and identify impacts on work practices.

Selection Criteria
- Possess and demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
- Possess and demonstrate an ability to communicate sensitively with stakeholders including with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
- Knowledge of native title and the National Native Title Tribunal’s functions or the ability to quickly acquire this.
- Demonstrated experience in developing system architecture, design, and best practice in the delivery of geospatial or data solutions.
- Demonstrated experience in data management, analysis and mapping using ESRI desktop and Enterprise GIS solutions. Experience using FME and SQL Server Spatial or equivalent.
- The ability to use leadership skills to positively influence people, promote team effectiveness and contribute to the development of strategies for the delivery of high-quality spatial services.
- Advanced communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to facilitate cooperation between business units.
- Substantial knowledge of Geospatial data and information associated with:
- Torrens land tenure system.
- nterpretation of historical tenure
- mining, petroleum and other land or water-based tenures
- native title
Qualifications
Relevant tertiary qualifications, or recognised equivalent, in a spatial science discipline is essential, e.g. Geographic Information Systems, Spatial Sciences, Surveying, or Land Information Systems.

Employment with the Court is subject to the conditions prescribed in the Public Service Act 1999, and the following:
- Australian citizenship – the successful applicant must hold Australian citizenship.
- Security and character clearance – the successful applicant must satisfy a Police Records Check and may also be required to complete security clearances during the course of their employment.
- Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
Interested candidates who have received a redundancy benefit from an APS agency are welcome to apply but note that they cannot be engaged until their redundancy benefit period has expired.
