Merrylands Public School has a current enrolment of 595 students (including 11 Aboriginal/Torres St Islander students) and serves a diverse school community with 93% of students from a language background other than English and 15% of students with refugee backgrounds. The school is made up of 22 mainstream classes and five support classes catering for students with mild/moderate intellectual disability and autism. The school has a well established Positive Behaviour for Learning approach to student wellbeing and embraces the Real Schools restorative strategies of student support. Teachers collaborate as a team with curriculum & stage leaders, intervention and EAL/D support teachers and SLSOs to promote the development of each child as an individual and support academic growth and personal excellence across the curriculum. Students access a variety of extra‑curricular activities including sports, creative & performing arts, debating and cultural activities. A variety of technology is available to all students in their classrooms and the school shares & celebrates learning with our families through online platforms. The school has solid positive partnerships between students, staff, parents/carers, external agencies and the wider community to promote the best possible outcomes for our students. We work together in an inclusive setting to ensure our students are safe, respectful and responsible learners.
